
Shannon Vale Foods is a wholly family owned company established as a small egg trading
business over one hundred years ago by Michael O’Regan when he moved to Clonakilty in 1885.
The running of the egg trading business was taken over by his son Timothy in about 1903 on the death of his father Michael. He developed it further and subsequently the business blossomed under Timothy’s son, James P., when he took it over in 1945 operating as a small market trader attending country fairs and buying supplies of eggs and chickens- trading out of 24 Western Road, Clonakilty.
In 1957, The business moved to the Old Brewery off Emmet Square.
In 1960, Number 23 Western Road was purchased due to expansion.

In 1999 the facility was destroyed by fire. However, within eighteen months the entire facility was rebuilt with the new state of the art facility opened by the late James P O’Regan in March 2000.
In 2010, New state of the art air chill and covered Lairage area was constructed.
In 2015, a gluten-free range was introduced which is processed on its own line. This is currently the only line Bord Bia approved in the Republic of Ireland.
In 2019 started up their new Grange Hatchery in Newcastle West. The new hatchery is equipped with LINCO REAL Single-Stage equipment. The present installation is designed for future extension. Both setter and hatcher rooms have installed the original LINCO plenum sections, ensuring to keep bio-security on top level.

All poultry is sourced from our two company commercial sites or our 32 contract growing farms along with a further six contract sites dedicated to Free Range production. All of which are Bord Bia approved. These farms are supplied from the hatchery in Newcastlewest, Co. Limerick. A small number of organic poultry is processed to meet specific niche markets.
Shannon Vale process three types of poultry – commercial, free range and organic while Halal slaughtered poultry is produced to meet customer demand for this niche market.
Shannon Vale is a fully approved EC facility and operates under the Department of Agriculture and Food. The company is fully HACCP compliant and a BRC approved facility.

Today, Shannon Vale Foods is dedicated to the production and manufacturing of quality poultry and meat products, with the current management team being the fourth generation of the family within the business.
The average weekly throughput is approximately 200,000 broiler chickens which are sold as primary poultry products and value added products such as a range of marinated, breaded, gluten free, stuffed and basted products.
